Diana Mtiro is a Tanzanian visual artist based in Dar es Salaam whose practice explores faith, dreams, raw emotions, and the unseen dimensions of human experience. She began her artistic journey during secondary school in 2018, initially drawn to portraiture and the study of the human face. In 2025, her practice took a deeper turn as she began pursuing art professionally and developed a more distinctive visual identity.
Working primarily with charcoal, oil pastels, and colored pencils, Diana approaches her work through meditation, reflection, and the study of meaning. Her imagery can appear dark, unsettling, or even horrific, yet beneath the intensity lies an exploration of positive and transformative ideas. Biblical scriptures, personal experiences, dreams, and quiet contemplation often become starting points for her creations. Her work explores hope, pain, horror, love, and faith, using the unsettling not simply to create fear, but to reveal something deeper about the human and spiritual experience.
