My name is Collen Nyamukapa, born 18th April 1966 in Murehwa. Grew up in Harare in a family of seven, being the 5th born. Started primary education in Gwinyai Primary in Mbare, and finished at Tsinhinaro in Tafara. Did O’ Level at Mabvuku High and completed in 1984. I have got a family of two boys, both still at primary level. Sadza and vegetable are my favorite food. Soccer is my favorite sport.
It all came as a dream in 2008 to start Art, before that year I used to help my cousin Luckson Gutsa to polish his works. This inspired me much. I started working with an abstract piece. He taught me the sketching on raw material. I sold my first piece to the late Collin Brown from South Africa. Due to family problems, I stopped working in 2009. In 2010, I proceeded on collection of different art. As of 2010 till now, I have attended different exhibitions. The Small to Medium Enterprises, Empretec and Rescue, have helped me in training of how to run the business. I have attended fairs like the Zimbabwe Market Fair in Mutare, Harare and Bulawayo, and the Sanganayi Travel Expo Fair, the Borrowdale Fair and I work with the National Gallery of Zimbabwe.
I have four guys who I work with, including two ladies who are also talented in Art. Due to financial constraints, I wanted to start training lessons this year for upcoming youths but I failed. To the coming year, I am looking forward to go for exhibitions outside of Zimbabwe.
My great thanks go to Gutsa family, who inspired me in art, the Small to Medium Enterprises, UNDP and Empritec for sponsoring me to go for exhibitions and the community at large for supporting me in any way. I do not forget my family members for supporting me through these years.
