Derrick Ibalai (b. 2000) is a Kenyan contemporary artist, designer, and storyteller exploring humanity, identity, and spirituality through painting, drawing, sculpture, design, and installations. His work is inspired by personal experiences, his environment, and daily interactions.
His artistic journey began early—at four, he was drafting comic strips about Nairobi’s urban life, which evolved into imaginative drawings. Encouraged by family and friends, he pursued formal training, studying Art and Design at Kakamega School (2014–2018) before earning a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from JKUAT in 2024.
Since 2023, Derrick has exhibited widely in Kenya and beyond, with his work reaching Uganda, Rwanda, Italy, and the USA. His art has sparked conversations, inspired communities, and driven social change.
